Monthly Mortgage Market Update - September 2023

We thought we’d share some news about the UKs first time buyers housing market.

According to a recent review, the number of first-time buyers has dipped by 22% from January to August this year, compared to the same time last year. Not surprising really, given how crazy house prices have been. Speaking of, the average price for a first home is currently around £288,030, which is actually a 2% drop from last year.

But here’s the silver lining – the average deposit has also gone down to about £54,116. It’s not all doom and gloom!

Interestingly, the typical age of first-time buyers has nudged up to 32, compared to 30 a decade ago. But, here’s the thing – despite the recent decline, the number of people getting their first home is actually 17% higher than it was ten years ago. Looks like our dreams of homeownership are still alive and kicking, thanks to some steady income growth.

Keep the faith, we’ll get there and we are here to help you.
